Today marks 6 yrs since locating an incredible friend lost to suicide.

Taylor was an amazing young lady who had a big heart and enough love to share. What we saw on the outside was sunshine and happiness. We did not know her suffering on the inside or understand it fully.

If you or someone you know suffers with mental health please talk about it.
Someone who's suicidal may be tempted to bottle up feelings because he/she feels ashamed, guilty or embarrassed.
Be supportive, understanding, and express your opinions without placing blame. Asking about suicidal thoughts or feelings won't push someone into doing something self-destructive; talking about feelings may reduce the risk of acting on suicidal feelings. Encourage them to speak to a responsible adult, help is one call or text away.

I've been thinking about this post all day and how I was going to explain what I thought about it. I was like OK I am going to do something clever and give everyone an aerial shot of my work top or I'm going to make a meme that everyone can share on how to find your starting point. But then I'm looking through progress pictures, finding my starting points and reminiscing how I got to them.

It all starts with a thought, sometimes I make a sketch, or I just go for it! I used to make a HUGE plan before creating an order, but by the time I got to making it I was so stressed out beyond what is normal of a person being stressed out. I couldn't artistically connect and find my starting point because I was just emotionally wiped.

What's the point of my rambling today? Keep your plans simple so you can find your starting point and get to your end point with ease. If you have 10 things listed to get one project done, revamp your method. Don't lose your Passion stressing out by making too many points. 💯

First thing I think of to complete this phrase is ... training.

Way back in the late 1900's (🤣) I began collecting magazines, books and admiring pictures of cakes. Then one day I got a wild hair to try and make an elaborate decorated cake for fun. It was expensive, I had zero guidance except for a small instruction sheet provided with cake pan 😳 ! But I did ok, it tasted delish, didn't look too awkward, but was falling apart from the inside 😅

I kept at it on my own, until I discovered hands on training was available outside a culinary school. It was through these classes I learned there was an easier way to do things than what I had taught myself. In 2009, I began teaching the Art of Cake Decorating. I was a @wiltoncakes method instructor, today I teach locally and have traveled all over the country to teach at cake shows and bakery expos.

Hands on training my fraannddss! You can watch videos all day long, but seriously the impact is so much greater when you're working alongside (safely distanced) with a seasoned instructor 🥰

I was contracted to not only create an edible Marie Antoinette with working guillotine, but asked to present the cake to the Hosts. This cake taught me so many things, like the age old saying "measure twice, cut once." 😅🤣

Pic to the left was a fairly proud moment for me... until humidity. 🤣😂

I grew up on the East Coast, baked quite often, but did not develop my cake art skills until 6 years after moving to Las Vegas. I was invited to create two cakes for a dual celebration in Rhode Island. I spent hours in my chilled to the bone hotel room with a mini kitchenette working on my designs. As soon as we got to the rental car, the fondant began sagging 😳 that arm on left cake isn't supposed to look like an accordion 😅

Cake Artistry has some wide curves, crazy bends, and abrupt cliffs. I still learn something new, fail, recover, and improve. The proof is to the right 🤘🏻

My original design, "Geology Rocks" was created for a display showpiece at @bakingexpo for @renshawamericas
in 2016.

At the time, Renshaw had launched their newest color Navy and needed something eye catching for their booth. I'm told I nailed it, and this cake was def a convo starter.

The realistic branches are wired and covered with edible medium. The marble tier was a mix of Navy, purple, white, and black. I use @caljava FondX Edible Glue to create shine 🌟

I have worked countless jobs in the past that did not fit my wheelhouse. But for the sake of keeping a roof over my head I showed up and did what was expected of me. I came across a quote that helped remind me, no matter what, to smile.

When I began my business in 2009, I didn't have an established style; I was doing what everyone else wanted. Having this open style of creativity was actually very stressful, I couldn't emotionally connect to it, which as an artist it actually hurts us deeply when we can't connect to our art.

As the years passed and my passion for edible art increased I streamlined my menu and timidly said no, I'm sorry that's not my SCHtyle.

My SCHtyle starts with this color wall. It's the first thing I see in my studio, and it gives me all the feels on what I am about to do. My goal is to make delicious, incredible cake and sugar art that you can't find anywhere else. And that's exactly what happens. It's my SCHtyle.
